There are three methods to update your theme: the easiest way is the Automatic Update which requires you to register your purchase, the Envato Market Plugin update method and the traditional method that involves more steps via WordPress or via FTP:
Before updating, always check our update notes in the Change Log and make a backup of your theme folder.
Please note that customisations made via Theme Options are stored in the database so you don’t loose settings on theme update. You only loose modifications if you have modified the code files of the theme.
Best practice & important notes
- Create a backup: whenever you update it’s always a good idea to make sure that you have a current backup of your website and database. There are several plugins available that completely automate that process. You can also ask your host to perform a free backup for you. More info...
- Save Theme Options: after the update Save your Theme Options in order to recreate the dynamic CSS file with settings like custom colors and fonts.
- Clear cache: it is always recommended to reset your browser, possible cache plugins, and server cache when you update. Possible visual issues may occur after an update if you have old files cached, this is something easily avoided by clearing your cache after all updates.

Automatic Update method
If you need to update to a later version of Uncode 1.8 or you have already installed at least Uncode 1.8, please continue reading. The easiest way to update your theme is to use our Automatic Update feature, which will require you to complete the Product Registration.
Once you have registered the product and an Uncode update is released, you will receive an update notification in the WordPress Dashboard → Updates section of your installation and requires user acknowledgement to complete the update.
- Register your purchase by the Product Registration screen.
- Navigate to the WordPress Dashboard → Updates section of your installation.
- Under the 'Themes' section, you’ll see the Uncode update notification. If you don’t see the update and know one available, click the 'Check Again' button on top of the page to refresh the updates list.
- Check the checkbox beside the Uncode update, then click the 'Update Themes' button to start the update, screenshot .
- WordPress will direct you to a blank native screen. Wait for the update to complete. The waiting time may vary depending on your server's performance. A success notification will be displayed once the theme is updated successfully, screenshot .
- After the update Save your Theme Options in order to recreate the dynamic CSS file with settings like custom colors and fonts, screenshot .
- Don’t forget to update the required plugins. You will see a notification message in Uncode → Install Plugins telling you the required and recommended plugins must be updated. Don't forget to update Uncode Core and Uncode WPBakery Page Builder plugins. If you need to update LayerSlider please find more info at the bottom of this page.
Envato Market Plugin method
The Envato Market Plugin helps you to receive updates to your themes purchased through Envato Market (ThemeForest). The plugin Settings Page allows you to configure your Envato API Personal Token.
This API Token is generated from build.envato.com and will allow WordPress to securely receive item updates. Once the Envato API connection is made from the Settings page, a list of available Themes will be shown. Any available theme updates can be applied here.
Don’t forget to update the required plugins after the theme update.
Manual Update method
If you don’t want to or can’t use the plugin, you can always update the theme manually in two ways:
Via WordPress
- Download the latest version of the Uncode Theme from your ThemeForest account.
- Remove the theme from Appearance → Themes by selecting another first and then reinstall it as shown here.
- Re-upload the theme from Appearance → Themes → Add New.
- When the theme is updated, update the required plugins if you see the ‘Require Update’ notice next some plugins name (generally Uncode Core and Uncode WPBakery Page Builder).
- After the update Save your Theme Options in order to recreate the dynamic CSS file with settings like custom colors and fonts, screenshot .
- Don’t forget to update the required plugins. You will see a notification message in Uncode → Install Plugins telling you the required and recommended plugins must be updated.
Via FTP
- Remove the folder Uncode via FTP and re-upload it as shown here.
- When the theme is updated, update the required plugins if you see the ‘Require Update’ notice next some plugins name (generally Uncode Core and Uncode WPBakery Page Builder).
- Save Theme Options to regenerate the custom styles.
- Don’t forget to update the required plugins. You will see a notification message in Uncode → Install Plugins telling you the required and recommended plugins must be updated.
Update LayerSlider
Unfortunately the LayerSlider plugin implements it's own routine for the update. Before update this plugin to the latest version you need first to deactivate the actual plugin version.
Portfolio 404
If you have Portfolio 404 error, just go to Theme Options → Customise → Portfolio CPT modify the slug to something else, save and then insert again your desired slug term.
